ITs really good for a first experiment. You don't have to have all your eye polies so clumped together, you can spread those down the cheek a bit. Try and keep your loops round rather than jutting along like your forehead should be up more than down. He has an angry forehead And you do have a pretty high density along the sides but as you said, you'd fix that :D

Looking good so far, The angle looks a bit strong from the top of the forehead to the top of the head maybe give it a softer curve?
I'm sure someone will give a better crit who knows about faces!
Lips do looks nice, and the way the polys are generally smoothing.
