Renders and wireframe of self-portrait model

I almost posted this accidentally into the Game Art speed blog, thankfully the tag previews alerted me ("LOL POKEMON").

Well here are some renders of my self-portrait model. I kind of like it and dislike it at the same time.

Self-portrait project update

Thanks to all of those who voted and commented on my concept designs (Blogger, Facebook and my personal LJ); number one and two were the most popular designs so I've mixed them up a bit in my final design.

A few work-in-progress images of the model:

Topology is quite messed up, need to fix that...

CHOOSE YOUR DYNASTY WARRIOR!

... I mean, choose the outfit design you like for my self-portrait in Mortal Engines theme (the items of clothing can be swapped around). Pilot of an airship, Eastern style:

Whoo, choosing to be a citizen of Shan Guo gives me an excuse to dress myself in a Hanfu-style outfit! Heh. I just love the fact that the name "Shan Guo" is a reference to Sanguo yanyi, aka "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" which I have been obsessed with for over a year now (the Dynasty Warriors games are based on this historical novel).

And my city is now complete!

New interesting character, and more pictures

After going through 5 different people I've finally settled with this interesting old guy... the way his beard separated really caught my attention on the street!

Two of the previous (now abandoned) "interesting characters" that I saw... one of them walked past me right after the other and I thought they looked the complete opposite of each other! The guy on the right was incredibly tall.

Quick study of part of the interior of the Queen's building:

A few days ago the sky was a pretty colour... thought I'd draw it:

And a couple of more speedpaints. The first one took about 40 minutes and the second one took 1 hour. It was hard to draw, too...

Silk Puppet

The lights dimmed as the audience finished their round of applause. The velvet curtains parted, revealing a colossal stage with a single spotlight shining down on one solitary figure. The performer stood deathly still with a long cloak down to her barefeet, not a single muscle moving. Then, with one sweeping motion, she elegantly lifted away the cloak, revealing a body of silk.

Probably the weirdest thing I've drawn in awhile. This is just an idea for my Interesting Character project. Most of her body is made of silk cloth. Usually she walks around with a long cloak on to cover up herself. Yes, this really was inspired by a real person I saw on a street...

Week 10 - Characters

CHARACTERS!

I love characters. When I read a book, watch TV series or play a game that has a storyline, one of the most important things that keeps me going is a favourite character within the story. I like loveable characters whom I cam empathize with, with likeable character traits. For instance, while it's possible to empathize with Tidus from Final Fantasy X, he whines way too much and is difficult to like. I have to enjoy “being with” the character. This means that, in games, I prefer characters in third-person so that I can see the overall situation around them, watch their expressions and their reactions to different situations, instead of in first-person where I become the character myself.

If there is no loveable character in the story, then I may lose interest. I am currently watching a TV series where there is an amazing character at the start, but then his screen time becomes less and less, and I ended up getting a little… bored with the series! However he has returned and has become more epic than ever.

Normally, if there are more than one protagonists, I would prefer the weaker character, especially if they have suffered some sort of misfortune in the past. As I mentioned above, I like to sympathise with my characters and watch them behave and deal with the world they are in, watch them grow and develop, and see where they end up at the very end. So in storylines, it is those type of characters that feel more human and realistic than the annoying good-at-everything perfect character.

My organic character, Spronion...

My organic character is extremely surreal...
